Maus ideas

In this article about Maus, the author emphases the fact that the events that happen during the holocaust not only affected those experiencing it, but the following generations. It also stresses the value of human life. Throughout the holocaust people were treated as nothing more than animals and the author tries to get across the importance in the value of human life. In addition, the author points out that in Maus the addition of the photograph of Art’s farther adds to the reality of the situation. As one reads Maus they become attached to the characters, so when a picture of one of the characters appears in the book, it’s going to make the story that much more real for the readers, and they are going to feel more for the characters as the story progresses on.  The author of this article also brings up the point about the “problems of evil” and that no matter how horrible an event/ situation can get, there is always something to learn/take away from it. In addition he states that if something along the same lines were to occur again, then the “superpowers” of the world would step in and intervene with the situation. I think the overall article expresses the fact that people learn from past mistakes, and if something similar were to happen it would be stopped before it got to the same magnitude as the holocaust.
